Located in close proximity to the East-West shipping route, and positioned at a tactical location on the maritime gateway to India, the Port of Hambantota is Sri Lanka’s most novel port facility. It is well placed in terms of domestic trade since its adjoining roadways effortlessly connect to the southern, central and eastern areas of the island. It has 1,600 meters of quay, with 2,400 meters projected in the second phase. The Port of Hambantota handles mostly the Ro-Ro vessels and is used mainly by Car Carriers for transshipment.
